Tweed, Ontario is a village located in the County of Hastings, about halfway between Ottawa and Toronto. Surrounded by rivers, lakes and wooded areas, Tweed is the gateway to Land O' Lakes tourist region. There is always lots for visitors and residents to do in and around Tweed, winter and summer. Tweed was first settled in the 1830s and named Hungerford Mill. The settlement was renamed Tweed after the River Tweed in England. It was incorporated as a Village in 1891. Tweed has a population of about 1,540 residents according to the 2001 Canada Census. The principle highway through Tweed is Hwy #37 from Belleville; just minutes south of Hwy #7.
