Originally called Port Trent in 1790, by 1800 lumber was the major industry in Trenton, and the first saw mill was built. In 1853, Trenton was incorporated as a village and shortly thereafter, in 1856, a rail stop was opened which rapidly made Trenton the major rail, power and manufacturing center in the region. In 1880, Trenton became the Town of Trenton, but not until 1980 did Trenton's expanding population make it the City of Trenton. Today, Trenton Ontario is part of the newly formed City of Quinte West: comprised of Trenton, Frankford, Sidney and Murray Townships. Touted as the "Playground of Southern Ontario" Trenton represents the get-a-way of all vacation destinations. Water water everywhere and lots of things to do. Trenton is interesting, exciting, fun and relaxing . . . a great place to visit and live.
